My Tumblelog

Written by Prashant Nadarajan on 20.03.2008 | Miscellaneous

I just created a tumblelog at http://tumblr.prashantrajan.com (subscribe to feed here) to see if it will increase my posting rate. It’s more scrapbook style for quick posts which would suite me better, being less wordy and all. We’ll see how it goes.

Winds of Change

Written by Prashant Nadarajan on 09.03.2008 | Malaysia, Opinions

As Malaysians come to term with the results of the latest general elections, I’m suddenly reminded of the tagline for the movie V for Vendetta:

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

Let this serve as a reminder to the incoming elected representatives of all parties, you are where you are now because the people of the nation put you there, so please try not to disappoint.

New Year’s Resolution 2008

Written by Prashant Nadarajan on 31.12.2007 | Life

I’ve been thinking about resolutions for the new year and there are a couple of things I want to change in my life but one thing stands out more than the rest, something that I MUST do:

Execute my ideas for building web applications.

So there it is, just one main resolution but the personal satisfaction it will bring me will be incredible. I’ve got a couple of other mini resolutions too but I’ll keep those private for now and blog about them at the end of the year.

To help get the ball rolling, here are some inspiring quotes to keep motivated:-

Year in Review 2007

Written by Prashant Nadarajan on 31.12.2007 | Life

All in all its been a pretty decent year. Some of my highlights for 2007:

  • Lost weight - lost 20+ pounds and counting.
  • Less stuff - I buy and own less stuff than ever before and I’m much happier.
  • New language - learnt the Ruby programming language.
  • Smash-free - didn’t "total-loss" for the first time in years.

… and a couple of other mini life changing achievements.

So here’s a big thank you to everyone I know who helped make 2007 so good and memorable.

Blatant Advertising

From Seth Godin’s post on Frequency, Frequency, Frequency and the paradox of the Net:

The challenge online is this: smart people are bored by frequency. The people you’re trying hardest to reach won’t sit still for repetitive messages. I used to read a certain blog religiously, but after the 300th irrelevant post about his new book, I had to flee. I haven’t been back since.

I had a similar experience recently with a blog I faithfully followed and happily recommended to others, the Dilbert Blog. However, after his millionth time of adding unrelated references about his new book to his posts, I decided enough was enough. It …

OLPC to change the world

Written by Prashant Nadarajan on 10.10.2007 | Life

David Pogue’s recent review of the XO laptop (formerly known as the $100 laptop) got me thinking on how truly world changing this piece of engineering brilliance could potentially be - imagine every kid in the world having access to a personal computer and by extension, the Internet. It’s been in the works for some time now but actually seeing it in action gets me all excited thinking about the possibilities. Mr. Pogue does an excellent job of highlighting all the good stuff and also does so in video, something I feel the OLPC should take heed and do as well to better extol all the virtues of the XO.

The XO is packed with many …

Brazen Careerist

Written by Prashant Nadarajan on 05.05.2007 | Miscellaneous

Penelope Trunk’s Brazen Careerist has been one of my favorite blogs to read of late (hmm, I wonder why :p). She writes about work and life (is there a difference these days?) and the things she has to say resonates well with me; it’s like she’s been in my shoes! Her posts date all the way back to 2001 and there’s a tonne of good stuff to read even from the earlier posts. Here are some of her articles I recently read and enjoyed:

She also …
